Happy New Year! Starting January 15, we will add an evening sit to our weekly schedule. It will be at the same place as our Saturday sit and will occur Tuesdays, from 7 - 9 pm. More details comming soon.

Nashville Zen Center presents a student-led retreat October 26, 27, & 28 at Penuel Ridge Retreat Center, located 30 minutes northwest of downtown Nashville. Please join us for a day, or for the entire weekend! (Friday through Sunday). Led by NZC President Nat Brown and other senior students, this seasonal zazenkai will feature an emphasis on sitting meditation (zazen) through an exploration of the traditional Buddhist concept of Awakening. The very name of Buddhism's founder means the awakened one; sitting meditation is a valuable tool for approaching this experience for oneself. Retreat fees are $45 per day Friday and Saturday and $35 for Sunday; the retreat begins Friday, October 26 at 5 am and ends Sunday at noon . participants are welcome to sleep at Penuel Ridge Thursday evening or to join us at periodic intervals throughout the retreat if sitting with us for less than the entire retreat. Fees include vegetarian meals and lodging in a peaceful and secluded woodland setting. For more information or to secure your cushion (a deposit of 50% is required)

The Fourth Nashville Buddhist Festival will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2007, from noon until 5 p.m. It will take place at the Barn behind First Church Unity at 5125 Franklin Road, Nashville, TN. The Nashville Zen Center is proud to announce its first one-day retreat of 2007. It will take place on Saturday, Feb. 24, at Jennye's lake house north of Mount Juliet. It will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Directions to the site will be posted here well in advance of the event. The regular sit at the Barn will not be held that day.

Taiun Michael Elliston, abbott of the Atlanta Soto Zen Center, who last visited us on Dec. 15 - 16, 2006, is joining us for the retreat. Dharma talk, discussion and opportunities for dokusan will be provided.

The cost for the retreat will be $25 per person, payable in advance, no later that Feb. 17. Please email retreats for more information. If you are not a regular member of the NZC, please communicate with us beforehand to let us know who you are.

The cost of the retreat includes lunch, tea and possibly snacks. In addition, dana for Sensei Elliston will be appreciated.
